The Road to Enlightenment!
Welcome. - I am a designer / furniture maker situated in the Yarra Valley near Melbourne. I love to make beautiful, unique and practical timber furniture for my clients to enjoy.
Designing - I take my clients wishes, the context of the piece, some possible directions , timber that is available and mix them up and let a solution evolve. My experience of this process is that I do not create the solution, rather, I allow space for the solution to find its own form.
Production - Where possible and appropriate, I work with timber milled from salvaged logs. This timber is often very beautiful, oddly shaped and challenging to work. Put together with the unique design, production often has a technical 'edge' which as a craftsman I enjoy. Glues and finishes are selected as appropriate to the application but also with consideration to environmental cost. Most of the energy used is generated by wind power.
Clients - I seem to be lucky with the clients I attract and I find myself becoming very fond of them. They are of course lovers of beautiful and unusual pieces but also open minded, flexible and patient.
Range of work - If it is furniture, crafted mainly from timber, contemporary, unique, beautiful and practical, I'll make it!
